Question 1

What is handpoke tattooing?

Accepted Answer

Handpoke tattooing goes back 5,000 years, and probably much further. Ink is placed into the skin manually, one dot at a time, using a sterile tattoo needle. Unlike machine tattooing, there is no electric machine or buzzing needle involved. The result is a slower, more intimate tattooing experience with a beautifully delicate finish.

Question 2

Does handpoke hurt less than machine tattooing?

Accepted Answer

Pain is very personal and everyone experiences tattooing differently. Many clients find handpoke more comfortable because the process is slower and gentler on the skin. Some describe it as a lighter, more manageable sensation than machine tattooing.

Question 3

Do you tattoo fingers and ears?

Accepted Answer

Yes. I specialise in delicate handpoke tattoos, with a particular focus on fingers and ears. These areas allow for beautiful, subtle designs, although I'll always advise you honestly about how a particular design is likely to age well. Bold lines or script always welcome. Send me your ideas and we can have a chat about your options.

Question 4

Do finger tattoos need touch-ups?

Accepted Answer

Rarely. Due to my experience tattooing fingers it's rare I have to do touch ups once they're healed. Fingers are one of the most challenging areas for tattoo longevity because of constant movement, washing and friction. So if they do — it's free of charge.

Question 5

How long does a handpoke tattoo take?

Accepted Answer

This depends on the size, detail and placement of your design. Small, delicate tattoos can often be completed relatively quickly, while larger or more detailed pieces naturally take longer. I will be able to give you a rough idea once I know what you're after.

Question 6

What should I do before my appointment?

Accepted Answer

Come with clean, moisturised skin and make sure you've eaten beforehand and had plenty of water. Avoid alcohol before your appointment and try to get a good night's sleep. Wear something comfortable that gives easy access to the area being tattooed. For ear or finger tattoos this is usually very simple, but for other placements, loose and practical clothing is best.

Question 7

How should I look after my tattoo?

Accepted Answer

You'll receive aftercare instructions at your appointment. But generally, keep your new tattoo clean and dry, avoid picking or scratching it, and follow the specific aftercare advice given to you.

Question 8

How do I book an appointment?

Accepted Answer

You can book through the booking form on my website or via email. Please include as much information as possible about your idea, preferred placement and approximate size as well as providing reference images. I'll then get back to you with the next steps.
